I still vividly remember the Russian theatre hostage crisis where the Russian Police used Sleeping gas to counter militants and get some hostages alive.

Its hard to believe the Indian Forces did not utilize anything like this ???
I was all the while thinking the Taj Nariman Trident Oberoi places would be tear gassed and the militants would be subdued temporarily to pave the way for NSG commandoes.
The Russians had used the Ventilation systems to pump sleeping gas. Indians could have done the same at Taj!
Remember !!! The terrorists wore no masks nor were they having gas masks!!!
This element of Surprise could have paved a faster tackle of the situation.
I felt the high-profile guests forced the Police not to use such means...!!!
But at what cost ???
At least they could have saved the Nariman House or many other hostages which the terrorists used as Human Shields.
In The Russian incident the Media was used very effectively by the Russian Secret police.
They fed reports of a strike via the media and did not do any strikes which confused the Terrorists and made them complacent. This is where I feel our media is also murdering our Commandos by feeding inch by inch details of the Operation.
The Media could have been used better. Or all the TV inputs to the Troubled buildings could have been cut off.
The Media is shameless in its quest for viewership. It calls actors and producers or movies and discussed about the greatness of the Taj which was not relevant at the time the operation of the Commandoes was ongoing.
I feel a law is required to curb such inept TV Media so that the Terrorists do not gain mileage from the TV which seems to be their main aim.
What is also apalling is the news that the Intelligence Warnings the Police in Mumbai and Centre had received time and again.
3 days into the Massacre and I hear no resignations. In fact the Government invited the perpetrators for an Explanation which was promptly denied !!!!
Will anybody resign at all ?? Who claims responsibilities of the lives of the ATS and NSG commandoes and scores of innocent bystanders which could have been avoided by acting on the Intelligence tip-off ??
We in fact are in such a helpless state. The Prime minister would not attack Pakistan when it should. There are hapless people being killed. and We ask the neighbours to do the needful.
I feel I Would have attacked Pakistan the moment i knew the Terrorists were dropped by from Karachi.
Pakistan is in its dying stages yet it wants to cripple India's Trade.
Its bloody jealous !!!!
Its time we deliver the Knock out Punch to them !!!!

I agree with u mann, but the entire system is so corrupt that you never know who to trust and who not to. At the first place for them to walk in as though it was a marriage invitation makes you think.

great blog I would say ... but then what I feel is the willingness of anybody in politics ... everybody wants to fill their own pockets and be safe in their houses ...when such events happen they can relax in their houses ... media covers everything and gets their share of money ...and it all ends as a high energy drama ...
Your thoughts are valid but surprising that the ATS Chief himself did not wear a bullet proof jacket shows how the leadership is..am not against his courage displayed there but even he being trained on such tactics, he went to fight with terrorists like a helpless man was very strange..our commandos are not well-equipped and trained!
What was our shore surveillance team doing when terrorists sailed by sea and entered India? Where did Raj Thackeray vanish during this incident who keep harping about his 'mumbai'? Everywhere its bureaucracy in our systems which hold back some worthy officials to take charge and decide on a better way to handle terrorism!!! You should watch "A Wednesday" movie depicting what mastermind goes behind such dangerous minds.

Regarding the resignations... with such shameless politicians sitting at the top we couldnt expect more ( i recollect one person saying .. bade shahron mein aisi choti cheeze hojaati hai.. and its not shahrukh khan but a politician on the incident)

Hey Prasanna, after reading the pose i was in a li'l confusion.. but yes what you have suggested is really a valid point abt the sleeping gas thing. But we never know why the solution was not adopted :(
Abt the point of resignations... nothing much can be expected from politicians who give statements like "bade shahron mein aisi choti cheezen hoti rehti hai"

It is said in a report that the equipment mumbai police had is outdated. esp Bulletproof vests were last bought in 2002 and they are almost useless with current day weapons. It is also said that the casualities for mumbai police are more because they were fighting with .303 rifles. The same rifles were used for NCC cadets while i was in my highschool. pity :'(
If uou want an answer to this question its within ourselves......we ourselves are to be held responsible for all the sufferings.it is bcoz we have tolerated them to the extent that we are the easiest and the nearest targets.........If one should think of a solution to this...........there has to b a revolution...like the war fo Independence........there has to be a war against terror..........the mindset the biggest culprit should change........and we should improve our memories.....we have forgotten that this was 6th terror strike in our country in this calender year.
ALSO....It is Strange why none of the Fire Extinguishers in the Taj work when there was a Fire!
Also the Staff could have triggered the Fire Alarm on seeing the Terrorists which would have alerted all the guests in the Floors and forced a Fire Exit Evacuation.
Some thoughts I feel which could have saved many many lives of innocent Indians !!!
But somewhere all of us are responsible....otherwise how they could have got a fake id card? the people are corrupted to such an extent that they could give a fake id card just for money......we cannot just blame the politicians.... lot of indians are responsible(indirectly) for the militants to creep into Mumbai ...
also, it looked like the qualis in which the three police officers were traveling was not a bullet proof vehicle. If it was not, then it is a more serious issue. 'coz, normal MLA gets a bullet proof car while the police officers who pledge thr lives for this country is not provided with basic safety equipments.
