It's been a busy but exciting September and I've woken up from ma blog slumber!!

~So let me start the chronicling of this September in the order as i c it...

1. Hutch became Vodafone...
so what the heck the Hutchison network still sucks. Vodafone it appears wants to make it big with the growing indian mobile users segment. Elsewhere its revenues are dwindling...India seems to be a safe bet for Vodafone for now.

2. UTI bank became Axis Bank...
so whats in it for me ????Spare me the re-naming for chrissake which was done for a global audience in the first place. The repeated ads were getting on my nerves and it seemed Axis Bank was euphoric apparently for no rhyme or reason. The ads featured Twins of different ages. While i was elated to see Twins getting attention(being a Twin myself, and coming from a family of twins) I felt the advertisers went overboard about the ad. There was nothing amazing about the ad and repeated broadcasts cud harm than Help the Axis Bank image.

3. Ram setu is being made a target of political vendetta or upmanship.
The congress and DMK governments claim that it will be profitable for the port of Cochin. Sadly this is a white lie as the proposed bridge will not be in same league as the Suez canal and cannot generate the same kind of revenue. In fact it will be costlier for the ships to traverse the route. Also since the land mass is narrow there will be damage to flora and fauna.The study by the government is one-sided and does not involve the srilankan side. Thus it is partisan and too early to decide on one report. But what the heck this government is bent upon taking one-sided decisions. The Nuclear deal is one such example. Noclear decisions seem to be the order of the day with this government.

4. India still remains @

Irony in the advertisement had me zapped.

Reliance seems to think ignorance is Bliss for india. Its ad featured a catch line which does not augur well for india. call it old world advertising or mixing of sublime rural pictures with the Gizmos of today.It sadly does paint a bad picture of the times.

While the delivery and content play on human emotions. The content can be termed Paradoxic @ bestFault is not the person who conceived it but the status india exists @ present.

Both rural and urbane i mean.
Saala achar daalogey kya network ka...jab potholes or Traffic jams se bura haal hain !

To draw a distant and distinct parallel...
Truly Total Network has come to mean like the Nokia catch line..."Connecting People" .....except of course its nothing short of "Disconnecting Families"

My Life@Mumbai...where we did not have any Telephone or Mobile service [I hear ppl sayin Not Again! ]was damn peaceful...

Only 1 shop closeby had a Telephone line for a population close to 1 lakh .... and yet everyone was Happy [;-)]

Post cards were the order of the day and people used to wait for their relatives letters.
Thats why neighbours meant so much more those days....So people used to connect to Neighbours and have good platonic friendships.

But what we might see in todays metropolis is some kind of high funda snobbing.
People are used to just talking to their Family members only...I am sure many might not know their third door neighbour by name or face.
So the ad "Total Network" is in some sense introducing hurdles to potent healthy human relations.I hate to say this as I work for Mobile phones....but they are (unknowingly) snuffing away the lives of people.

BOTTOMLINE : Technology progresses @ the cost of human relations. We really need infrastructure before we use technology for the greater good.

5. T20 : vanquishing the Ozzies...
comin back to the Fine performance by india in the T20 World cup...I am short of words...
just cannot verbalize the euphoria and rush of blood to the head i cud feel after the match.
It was a Kodak moment to cherish - Dhoni &Co. with the Trophy.
It made my dream of India beating Pak in a WC final Reality.
One Ericsson Engineer working wid me asked me why i was in such a mad hurry to get home, I told him it is IndiaVsPak in Final buddy and I wud not miss it for my life, impossible!!!He said is it like Life n Death ??? situation....
I told him he was talking out of his depths...its more than that.
In a Life n Death situation one wud try to save his life...An India Pak contest is a Full Fledged War!And we play to win and not just to survive ...
anyways he got enuff vibes that he shud leave me alone :) ROTFL
The match was a total mind game and India Aced the T20 World Series in the end. Righlty So!
Aside to this fact there is one n only lament ... ESPN the broadcaster made 122 crores revenues out of this.

Imagine all the ad money going out of india !!!!What the bloody hell was BCCI doing ???

Indian advertisers must have spent a fortune and now all the Indian money lands in the ESPN basket.

Is there really a way out of this ?

how to stem such revenue outflows ?

downed by a Trojan Virus 1st time in ma Desktop life

Yesterday a cosuin of mine came home with a Pen Drive. He wanted soem videos etc.
As soon as i inserted the USB mcAfee cribbed about a Trojan Generic.ep.

I found that this Trojan had messed up a lot of my windows n Registry settings.
The Ordeal...is as below..

If you get hit by Generic.ep virus
Install Norton / AVG / mcAfee AV programs.
This virus infects ur windows systems folders.Every directory u then browse has a directory of the same name with a .exe extension. The afore mentioned AV sw shud help u in weeding this out.

But you will find that Task Manager will be disabled.Fire "GPEDIT.msc" from Windows->RUN
Under Administrative template -> System categoryCtrl+alt+del options can be disabled. This will enable ur Task Manager to be launched.

Registry editing also can be enabled back by using this script ...

Humming Bird

Lately....I've picked up this habit of humming my fav songs in the company bus while on my way to and back from office. I usually play MP3s from my Mobile fone.

I feel Super lightweight after hearing and humming the songs

I wonder during the course of my humming " what really is a song .. its just not a set of words strewn for some poetic measure...

Its a

• Bunch of emotions
• Bunch of things ur heart wanted to say that day and could not...
• Bunch of TODOs which cud have been accomplished.

I feel Clear & Open rendition of songs frees the mind of the pangs which lurk in the corners of the heart.

So my suggestion dear reader....think out loud, sing out loud...for it rids ur mind of the many cravings life imposes on you and you could not fulfill maybe !

When I croon in the Company bus there are some curious glances....But I am like "Don't stop me now....coz I am having a good time :) "

I am very much reminded of the VH1 ad "If i were a Song" :))

Dahi handi ki yaadein

Story goes a long way back...We were kids then and Gokulastmi was the day we eagerly used to wait.

I used to feel the rush like that of the Drum Beats from a Heavy Metal song which pumps my adrenaline. Dahi Handi used to get me up all excited.

For starters Dahi handi is the festival in Maharashtra/Mumbai. It is an event marking the birth of Lord Krishna(Janmashtami) where a Pot with Curd and some money is tied between two tall rise buildings. It then has to be reached and broken.

The Money Factor goes up the higher the Handi is tied. though it not at all about the money. Just the achivement of being done that!!!

Our building boys were not the enterprising types. Dahi handi actually means forming a human chain of people standing one over another. It is the ultimate test of balance patience perseverance.

Unfortunately it also means a bad fall ;-).

Our building boyz used to tie the Dahi handi alright ... but never managed to break the pot by climbing in a formation.

But best part they tried it every time.

We kiddos used to have a different kind of Fun. Any rival groups which used to come to our lanes to break our handi were the prime targets. We used to fill water in baloons and throw it from behind crowds :) on them so as to give them a bad fall.

Yeah...that was rather Naive and Silly me...but it was a source of Fun for boys my age as we were not big enough to climb and the elders just would not let us.

Still it was a nerve wracking experience just observing the Other Teams across the street achieve the Feat.

Itz an experience which can only be experienced by being there.

yet again my heart yearns for the glimpses of Mumbai that built me. I wish I could start over again in the bylanes of Bombay.

Sometimes Time is such a mean thing...u can;t say roll over time.

So much for the Gheun Tak feeling yeah!
Amchi mumbai it remains....Kai sangu the nostalgic moments just get over me....!

[QOTM] Judicial Activism Vs Judicial Absenteeism

This seems so apt in Sanjay Dutt;s case that the importance of that statement cannot be more emphasized.
The HC Judge set a precedent by saying he was doing his duty.

It goes Without saying the kind of pressure the High court judge must be under after all Sanjay Dutt was a reigning Movie star and progreny of a stalwart actor and CONGRESSMAN.
It also made a bold statement. If the HC Judge found the facts or prima facie evidence and pronounced a verdict of 6 years. It meant the that it was a total honest and upright judgement.

If the star still goes to the Highest Echelon(Supreme Court) the judge may actually give a bigger sentence but i feel it cannot be less than 6 yrs RI certainly.

If at all the sentence is reduced It would mean the judge
maybe pressurised by the CONGRESS government and that a lesser sentence is nothing short of Judicial Absenteeism.

@ Samsung i see what prolly no other handset maker might have(I presume).
Self-Started individuals.
Well maybe not all the people but some people(abt 40%) committed to get better bigger and eclectic products. When I mean products its just not about products such as iPhone or a Discman. Engineers try to refine the existing products to a T !.
It can be a CD player. Innovation and Better Engineering go hand in hand.

Thats why ;
Not just any other Semi conductor company can be Samsung;

Its people who execute without excuses who drive the wheels@SamsungIndia.

Though it happens to be a simple tried and tested Business Model.
The Marketing and Sales make sure the Engineers have enough on their hands.
The Engineers on their part make sure the end user has no blues and likens the product.


Essentially while the culture in the industry seems to be 10% appraisals year on year.
@Samsung its all about "Value For Money" approach. or "Money for Value" ;-)

Engineer executes without excuses as he has to account for the Salaries given out to him.
These days when the average indian salary is 1$ a day. THe IT Engineer is at a overly Skewed luxury that way.Unless VFM approach is adopted its hard to sustain his salarys year on year.
Luckily for Samsung India, Engineers have in grained this as part of their culture.

Which in other companys maybe by the way of Key Performance Indicators tighly coupled to the appraisal process.

So while the MFV approach is there but its mainly not built into the HR process and is at a sublime process and something between the Employer Samsung and its employees.

7 wonders of the world ! eh what ?

Itz kind of funny there was a opinion poll to decide "Which are the Seven wonders of the world". Sometimes if u ask n noof people you get N opinions.

So that being the case opinion polls are sometimes a Farce.

But whats more startling is the world has a lot more to do than just vote on such meaningless polls. Taj mahal is a Marvel I agree but i don't need to tell someone its the best Monument I have seen. I know it in my heart. All this gimmick is for Tourism and 4 states which mainly survive on Tourism need to win in this game.

India need not !
Indians have been there done that....

All the good stuff these days has an indian hand though it might say "made in Xyz".

The only sad thing is dat Bangalore which accounts for a huge chunk of the export revenue and was the Catalyst for Economic revival in India is a mere badly wounded shadow of what it used to be.

Bangalore's name which is one of the recent wonders of the world in terms of technology has lost its sheen. Because of the terrorist incidents in UK.

I consider Bangalore home and some people have tarnished the image of it beyond repair.

Well going by the people involved and how they managed to hoodwink authorities in getting fake driving license etc. I think India itself is not safe against its own people.

The BBC surpisingly has a strange stance on the Terror incidents.
On one hand it condemns moslems. On the other their talk shows are complete with people claiming moslems are a part of british culture and they are misled by foreigners.

This is an interesting view point. Because for one they cannot remove the entire moslem community from the UK. And on the other hand they cannot live with Terrorism. Their only hope lies in trying to make some understanding and try to contain the hatred.

I feel if the moslems in UK do gang up. We will have one more palestine and Israel cat fight on our hands. Only difference the agressors will be Moslems and Britain might lose its land.

Unless countries understand and reform their policies vis-a-vis terrorists and its supporters they cannot rest peacefully.

They need to stop this bowing to the pressure created by Terrorists and should not soften their stand. In India its a different and meaningless cause.
It is ruled by an Italian who has no sense of whats happening. The Reservations are increased to keep the Minority community voters happy.

Who cares about which bomb kills whom.
The italian Femme Fatale is out here to make a fast Buck and make hay while the sunshines.

Looks like some people are taking it a bit too seriously going by the events in the UK.

And it seems above is changed like " every word that comes from the pages of a Book"

World is Flat ? well almost !!!

hmm.....At least some part (if not the Europe and North America). Looking at the bloodbath and chaos that manifests Afghanistan and Iraq the world surely seems flat. I am not even talking of Vietnam yet :).Flattened by dead bodies, left over pieces of metal junk destroyed suicide bombs, buildings razed to ground by bombings.The world today is a different world for sure.

There might be a house/complex being bombed shelled and razed to ground this very minute. As I have had the good fortune of travelling Asia and Europe. I serenity calmness in the lives of Asians and Europeans. But the same might well be missing in Middle East,Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan. Is there a parallel somewhere ?I mean some common factor ??

The US has clearly divided the Iraqis, Afghanis and (the latest) palestinians such that they infight among themselves and never really pose a threat to the USA.

Where the Israeli and Indian students create the next generation Technology.Where the European nations deploy the latest technological advancementsWhen across the world summits and talks are held on Global Warming and avoiding environmental hazards by adopting safe guard approaches. Some parts of the world are polarized & paralyzed by conflict strife hunger and bloodshed.

The world is flat ! It is actually spherical but is being flattened by devious Designs.

Vincent Van Gogh : The Landscaped Life!

I was watching the documentary on Vincent Van Goghs life.

Though I have not seen many of his paintings he remains a big influence on me (which has been from 3 paintings only). This documentary was a revelation. It seems Vincent Van Gogh was never really appreciated in his times. His life was full of struggle and pain. But to imagine that such a creative Genius had to undergo failure and troubled times just goes to say that what van gogh we have/know of, might be a shadow of the original self Van Gogh was.
His death is termed as a suicide. yet the documentary showed taht in his last 70 days of life he had painted 70 or more different classics which could only mean he was not in a suicidal frame. At least to me it appears he might have had his share of enemies.

Back then due to primitive or zero methods for forensic investigators his death would have appeared as a suicide.(Van Gogh died in Auvers-Sur-Oise July29 1890 at the age of 37!!!!) the documentary also details how an upcoming painter/artist started living with Van gogh.

He used to frequently quarrel with van gogh. van gogh once in a fit of rage cut his own ear. These incidents mark what was a troubled period for him personally but a creative period for him artistically. To beleive he walked to his own death is difficult for me. Van gogh by then was loving the works he churned out by looking at the surrounding landscapes. Then why would he kill himself in the same landscape.

Looking at the paintings i believe that Van Gogh had peaked or reached the summit of his creative work. Or who knows he could have given the world many more such colourful and insightful paitings of his. Van goghs paitings say more than a thousand words.
On my last visit to Europe and especially to the Musuem in Paris, my eyes yearned for Van Gogh material.Van Gogh;s paitings are normally seen as ones which have come out of desolation. But Van Gogh's master strokes make me believe he almost dicated terms to his Brush. Retrospective feel is resplendent in all his paintings.I hope I can buy an original Vincent van Gogh painting some day to adorn my bedroom wall.

Over a Tiring Flight...I watched a hindi flick which made the journey easy on me.

1. Movie captivating audiences such that you don;t realise 99% movie has been made in a Single room all the time.

2. 99% time characters / action / dialogues revolve around 4 people.

3. Ingenuity of the writer which creates interesting situations which are figments of imagination joined togather for a funnier measure.

4. The Actors seldom change costumes but the emotions change ( Happy -> Distraught -> upbeat -> frustrated -> helpless )

5. Story telling at its best.

Initially though the movie appears to be thoroughfare but as the plot is spread and the characters assume centre stage,The protagonist is in supreme command the antagonist is in supreme pain :),

The element of Fun emerges.
The Protagonist is shown as a guy who tries to have fun at otheres expense by having dinner with funny people and calling it an audition.

Vinay Pathak with his brand of Bullet Prooof (non stop) nonsense shines out from all the actors. Sarika cuts a sorry figure with her comeback. Milind Soman has put in a poor effort with his acting. His sitcom acting was better off.
Story takes u back and forth into the characters n their lives which was the best part I feel. The story telling is impeccable.

Overall an average fare to get ur Bheja Fried and Roasted.

On "Going to the mattresses"

You know i was feelin a lot blue...and needed to go to the mattresses badly.

But then I had sublime thoughts about the need to ""go to the mattresses"" (Korea Sojourn).

So thoughts spill over to the interesting times ahead.

My mind says oh not again and yippee at the same time (Can you imagine that ? ).

Well there are some reasons for the yin & yang.

And as I can hardly make time to meet old friends or do the household chores over the weekend.

I feel my day job sucks me into a hole i can never get out of!

Hmmm what then are the solutions ?

The Coconut Vendor & My Impressions of Guilt

Impressions of Guilt or is it a guilt Trip ?

Today being sunday. I got up on a laidback morning. I was supposed to take Dad to one of the far off places around bangalore.

I was not in a hurry. My bike was in a good condition as i Vroomed it into action. Papa was comfortable in the pillion seat. We got into one of the one-way lanes while wading thru the Sunday Traffic.
I always observe the minuest of things for a possible source of trouble while riding. Its a habit picked up are having one nasty accident(which was no fault of mine, i swear)

As i navigated the blind kerb into the one-way lane. I saw this elderly coconut vendor who had stocked his Cycle with around 30 coconuts.

I never thought he would do a volte face' that instant.

But yes the next instant he had turned a full circle and was bang in my way. Since I always maintain distance and some leeway I could veer away my bike.

But I hit or I was hit by the cycle on my knee. which made me slightly imbalanced. This was bcoz we were surrounded by a lot of the Sunday Traffic which in any indian city can be overwhelming. So my balancing skills were put to a severe caustic test.

And on the other side the coconut vendor who was around 60years of age had lost his balance. balancing 30 coconuts laden cycle can be a daunting task. I could not stop my bike that very instant. Yet it was more a guilt trip i wanted to avoid.

It was not at all my mistake but then I could not face the old man who was after all out to make a living on a sluggish Sunday Morning.

I am reminded of Schubert's song.

I see a man who stares upwards
And wrings his hands from the force of his pain.
I shudder when I see his face.
The moon reveals myself to me.

Many times i think was i in error ?Was I unseeing ? what i ought to have seen !
My mind has jammed - was almost ajar. I felt the pressure of every breath

Somewhere was I cavalier ?
It is at these times That I find myself in a complete lack of Focus!
